Anyway, don’t take our word for it, this is what the man himself had to say about it… in his memoirs Hawkey described how this world record took place. "I downed the contents of the pot in eleven seconds, left the Sconcemaster floundering, and entered the Guinness Book of Records with the fastest time ever recorded. This feat was to endear me to some of my fellow Australians more than anything else I ever achieved." Ironically, despite this early prowess with the amber nectar, Hawkey never had a single drink whilst he was Prime Minister — pretty good willpower from a man who could obviously put the stuff away! Perhaps Hawkey’s most famous quote was delivered after Australia had won the Americas Cup in 1983. After watching the victory he declared "Any boss who sacks a worker for not turning up today is a bum." Anyway, because of his world record, some classic quotes, and just looking like a hard b*stard as well for any fan of the big man.
